Karen L. Mertig, Menral Health Social Worker
I have a 4 year B.S. in Psychology from the College of William and Mary and a Master’s Degree in Social Work from Virginia Commonwealth University in the United States. I have worked as a therapist since graduating with my MSW in 2000.
My clinical work spans a wide range of both clients and settings including children and adults who have experienced multiple traumas and difficulties such as sexual abuse, homelessness, mental illness, poverty, gang violence, eating disorders, the death of a family member, and substance abuse in both rural and inner-city communities in the United States as well as in Ireland.
My approach is eclectic, and I work together with each client to identify areas they would like to address and together we create and tailor a treatment approach drawing on relevant therapeutic strategies which best meet client needs.
